Grappling for Adults

If you CAN'T defend yourself while standing AND on the ground, then you DON'T know how to defend yourself!

95% of all fights end up on the ground or in the grappling range... Grappling is the most neglected aspect of self-defense in most martial art systems.

"I have been searching for a Martial Arts program for some time now - although I competed in Karate many years ago, I wanted to find a Martial Arts program that could teach my son (9 year old) and I about throwing techniques and grappling. After being referred to Paul’s Judo / BJJ classes by a friend of mine, I can attest to the fact that his program is ideal for both the beginner and experienced fighter. Paul’s skill level is superior to most that I have seen and his teaching style is appropriate for both adults and children. I would recommend his class to anyone wanting to learn about Martial Arts, looking to get back in shape, or for the experienced fighter looking to improve themselves for competitive reasons."

What is Combat Judo?

The Olympic sport of Judo is similar and in most cases, complementary to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In our curricula, we believe that it is not only important to control the opponent on the ground, but also on our feet. Therefore, we have taken the proactive approach of blending the arts of Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling.

At the core of our grappling system is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling art that was popularized in America by the legendary Gracie family, concentrating on dominating your opponent by using leverage, angles, and superior body positioning to control their movement. A person with superior position is in a better situation to apply a finishing hold or to start striking. This style allows for a smaller person to defeat a much larger attacker, making Jiu-Jitsu an excellent and very effective discipline for women, who are often taken to the ground during assaults. We recommend this style for men, women, and children looking for a great workout and realistic self-defense.

Prospective Students

  • Do you consider yourself out of shape?

  • Haven't worked out in years?

  • Never done anything like this before?

It doesn't matter.

Our classes were designed to meet the needs of a brand new student that is attending for the very first time. Many new students believe you need to get in shape on your own before starting training. That could be the furthest thing from the truth. You’ll absolutely love the easy and relaxed environment we maintain in our beginner classes. It will allow you to come in and learn, no matter what shape you are in. Our program allows you to be able to progress at your very own pace. We understand that everyone learns differently. No matter if you can only train once a week or everyday, we have a program for you.

Paul's Combat Judo/BJJ class is geared to fit anyone's level of experience. When I first started training with Mr. Petushin, I had never done any kind of martial arts before. I figured that I would try it out and if it was too difficult, then at least I tried. As it turns out, it was just right for me. Mr. Petushin makes every student feel welcome, and gives personal attention when needed. Mr. Petushin makes you feel like he wants you to succeed. I would highly recommend his Combat Judo/BJJ program to anyone!

Grappling is TOO HARD

I’ve heard that there are people who think grappling is WAY TOO HARD and are hesitant to give it a try. This is the furthest thing from the truth. Grappling is FUN, first and foremost, and DOES NOT require any previous experience. Anyone can do it: big, small, young, old, flexible, non-flexible, experienced, beginner - ANYONE.

If you have ever thought that Martial Arts training might be for you, I urge you to come in and check out our program for yourself. I guarantee that you’ll absolutely love it; we can help meet any of your needs.

I would hate for you to miss out on the many benefits that our students are experiencing RIGHT NOW just because you're a little hesitant to give it a try. If that’s the case, you don’t even have to come in and try it, just come in and watch. I think that's fair, don't you? But if you want to try it, please take advantage of our FREE introductory class offer TODAY.

"I've been involved in the martial arts for over 30 years. I've studied Shotokan Karate, Aikido and Wing-Chun Kung-Fu, among other styles. Paul Petushin's Combat Judo surpasses all of them. Protecting yourself should be the most important aspect of any martial art. In a real-life situation, you have over a 90% chance of the fight ending up on the ground. Combat Judo, with it's combination of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, will prepare you for any self-defense situation you can think of. In addition, the training method Mr. Petushin uses provides the best all-around conditioning of any other style I've studied. Not only am I a student of Mr. Petushin, but two of my sons are also students. It's the best all-around martial arts program for adults and children available in the Twin Cities."
